About Us
The roots of the company began in 1950 when David R. Tuttle began operation of the David R. Tuttle Company, a manufacturers agency selling in what was then a domestic fastener industry. He represented companies such as Wasmer Bolt, now Lake Erie Screw, Master Products, Wales Beach and Independent Nail Corporation.
The year 1953 brought his debut to distribution with the formation of the Independent Ohio Nail Company. This company was developed to supply the less then truck load wholesalers with threaded nails. In 1954, the Fruehauf Corporation urged Mr. Tuttle to begin supplying their lower-volume parts. Spencer Products was formed to serve that purpose.
Mr. Tuttle was inducted into the National Industrial Fastener Hall of Fame in 1990, shortly after his death. Mr. Tuttle's three sons, David C., Robert J. and Thomas G., now own and run Spencer Products. There are about sixty employees expanding into four states and six stocking warehouses.
